TeedOff Privacy Policy

Effective October 6, 2026

What we collect

• Account info — username, display name, an email address, and a securely hashed password. Optional: profile photo, bio, home course, handicap.
• Your email address — required to create an account. We use it for account matters and to send a password-reset link when you ask for one. It is stored encrypted, and it is passed to our email provider only to deliver those messages. We don't send marketing email.
• Golf data you enter — scores, putts, clubs, rounds, game-mode results, and the courses you create.
• Shot and practice logs — the shots you tag during a round (club, lie, how the miss looked) and the shots you log at the range. These are what the Shot Doctor reads.
• Apple Watch — scores and shots you enter on the watch sync to the same round as the ones you enter on the phone. The watch adds nothing else.
• Location — your GPS position is used on your device to show distances, the hole map, and nearby features while you play. We store a location point only when you explicitly save one: a tracked shot, a flagged "nemesis" shot, or a course you create. Course mapping runs on your phone: your GPS position is used on the device to place the tee and never leaves it for mapping. Only the course's coordinates are used to fetch aerial photos (see Data storage & security), and where a course has already been mapped, your phone downloads that map. We do not track or store your movements, and we never collect location in the background.
• How long we keep saved positions — the GPS coordinates attached to tracked shots are deleted after two years (730 days). Your scorecards and stats are not affected; only the precise positions go.
• Content you share — comments, kudos, game results, and anything you post to other players.

What we don't do

• We don't sell your data. To anyone. Ever.
• We don't show ads or share data with advertisers.
• We don't use third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
• We don't collect contacts, browsing history, or background location.

One thing we should name rather than leave out: our hosting provider, Cloudflare, runs its own bot-detection script on our web pages to tell real visitors from automated traffic. It is Cloudflare's, not ours, we get no analytics or advertising data from it, and it does not run inside the app.

Who can see your stuff

Your rounds, stats, and course activity are visible to you and people you follow, controlled by your privacy settings. Courses you create are private by default — you choose if they're invite-only, friends-only, or public. Game lobbies are joinable only with a room code.

AI features

The post-round recap is written by the app itself from your round's own scores and events. No AI language model is involved and nothing is sent to an AI provider. An earlier version of TeedOff did use one; that was switched off in July 2026.

Payments

TeedOff is free. Optional tips are processed by Apple. We never see your payment details.

Deleting your data

You can permanently delete your account in the app: Settings → Delete my account. Your personal data is destroyed immediately. Scorecards from rounds you played with other people are kept for those players, with your name replaced by "Deleted player". If you'd rather ask us to do it, or you want a copy of what we hold, email support@sjdevelopment.net.

Data storage & security

Data is stored on our servers, encrypted in transit (HTTPS). Passwords are hashed with Argon2id, the current standard recommendation for password storage — we never store the password itself. Accounts created before we moved to Argon2id still have an older scrypt hash on file; those are checked at sign-in and upgraded to Argon2id the next time the owner logs in. Map imagery: in the iPhone app the course map is Apple Maps satellite imagery, loaded by your device from Apple; in the web version, map tiles load from Esri (Maxar imagery). Those requests include the map area being viewed but no account identity. For course mapping, our server fetches aerial photos from the U.S. Geological Survey (NAIP) using only the course's coordinates. Course layouts include data © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL). Encrypted backups may be kept on storage controlled by SJDevelopment LLC.

Children

TeedOff is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
